American Hand Drums
One of the first things I learned and was told to share was
drum-making. For many years I have made, given away and sold drums,
rattles and other Native American spiritual craftwork to people in many
lands. I was taught that the drum is the heartbeat of the Mother, and that
using a drum brings us into alignment with the energies of the land. There
are many other teachings about the drum, and I will share them with you as
we go along. I am also a shield-maker, and this includes the art of
painting on canvas. My shields have hung in many galleries throughout the
U.S., and I'm proud to have them hanging in many homes. When I am asked to
make a shield for a person, that shield reflects all that I know about
his/her life, and I make it with prayers and ceremony for that person's
health, happiness and well-being. This is Medicine, and I've been told
that the shields I've made have provided protection in many ways, just as
did the old warrior shields of the past. In our Teachers' Training, each
of you will each design and craft a series of shields that will help to
balance and protect you.
